THE ABSOLUTE DIFFERENCE
BAR CREEK
Residential Interior Design
In the most magical spot on the Truro River just outside Truro, Malpas is a leafy village where an old Chalet sat since the 60s. Located in the original Yacht station for Malpas, Bar Creek was reimagined into a modern home. Architecture design by Absolute, the new home was restricted to the original footprint of the chalet so the design and internal layout needed to be considered with this in mind.
The design both internally and externally mirrored a monochrome style. Using Shou Sui Ban charred cedar both as external cladding and on joinery inside. A seamless flow of neutral ceramic flooring runs through the house and out to the vast balconies. An open plan kitchen in neutrals and dark slate concave fluted timber adds texture without fuss. A feature glass woodturner sits in the chalets original fireplace location and is clad in Porcelanosa’s XLight Porcelain ultra thin tile.
All bathrooms follow the monochrome style with white tiles with fluted textures adding the detail. A fabricated rolled steel staircase hangs cleverly from the steel frame structure of the building and is almost a sculptural installation which defines the living space from the kitchen.

“I am so proud of our home now… it was waiting for a new lease of life and Absolute gave us the courage to go for it. The colours have lifted our home and work so well together. It’s warm yet bright and everything flows from one part of the house to the other. Thank you for making our house the home we have longed for.” – Homeowner
